Recently, I’ve been thinking about relocating to a Newport property, but I’ve found moving is always stressful. I’ve been thinking a lot about stress recently. I’m having trouble sleeping, been getting mood swings, and bad headaches. What causes stress, and what steps can be taken to reduce it? Once I stopped banging my head against the numerous oak tables I found dotted around the office, I did a bit of research and found the following ideas helped:
1) See your GP
Talk to your doctor about your concerns. They will be able to advise you about what steps you can take to make things better.
2) Exercise.
Taking some time out every day to exercise will help your body to produce endorphins, which make you feel better.
3) Have fun.
Learn to lavish attention on yourself each day, and have fun. Do things you know you will enjoy doing, as this will help lower stress levels.
4) Change your diet.
Not eating a healthy, balanced diet can have a tremendous effect on your emotional well-being. Avoid toxins like caffeine and nicotine.
5) Learn to forgive yourself.
We all make mistakes. After all, we’re only human. If you make a mistake, don’t get angry. Instead, accept that things don’t always go the way you want them to, because this is how we learn.
6) Tackle each problem one at a time.
Don’t attempt to do everything at once. Instead, make a list of the challenges you are faced with in order of priority, and attempt to deal with the important issues first.
7) Talk about it.
Don’t be afraid to share your feelings and troubles with friends and loved-ones. Talking openly about it will keep any negative emotions from being bottled up.
The important thing, I’ve learnt, is not to suffer in silence, and not be afraid to ask for help.
